The GAP Fellowship

Michael Ascher, M.D.

Michael Ascher, MD Michael Ascher is currently a resident in psychiatry at the Beth Israel Medical Center. He received his undergraduate degree in Psychology from The University of Michigan and his medical degree from the Sackler Faculty of Medicine. His current clinical interests include addictions, personality disorders, and integrative psychotherapy. He is the founder of The Young Professionals Society for the Arts, a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a community of diverse young professionals who come together to socialize, experience live performances from world-class artists, and raise awareness of charities that serve to improve the mental health of children and adolescents. Michael has served as chair of the Residents' Committee for the New York County District Branch of the American Psychiatric Association and is a cofounder of the website LivePsychiatry.com. He was invited to sit on the junior board of Suicide Prevention Initiatives. Michael has advanced training in the practice of Motivational Interviewing. He has served as a guest section editor for the American Journal of Psychiatry Residents' Journal. Michael is a member of The New York Academy of Medicine, the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology.

The way that GAP pursues its goals through collaboration, debate, and publication is particularly exciting to Michael because it encompasses his own love of discourse, writing, and research.
