The Committee focuses on the intersection between gender and mental health

ABOUT OUR COMMITTEE

Our committee examines the role of gender in mental health with a focus on women. We consider the effects of reproductive hormones, social determinants of health, and gender-linked stressors such as financial inequities, interpersonal violence and power differentials.  

Recent areas of focus:

  • Increasing maternal mortality in the US

  • Considerations regarding breastfeeding and mental health

  • The effects on mental health of recent legislation reducing reproductive rights

  • Access to care for pregnant people

  • The effects of COVID on pregnant and minority women

  • Case book on postpartum disorders
