Psychiatrists’ Knowledge of Their Patients’ Job Functioning

Summary: A letter to the editor outlining the results of an internet survey conducted by the GAP. Although the survey had a low response rate, the article described how mental health clinicians may know less about how to assess work functioning and employment status in the lives of their patients. The author encourages clinicians to become more knowledgeable and urged mental health professionals to receive more training on this topic. More than 23 million working-age Americans have chronic health and mental health problems that diminish their ability to work.
